Introducing the Magnetic Hands Self Hypnosis Method.

I’d like to share with you here another very popular self hypnosis induction method. This one involves paying attention to the energy flow between your hands and imagining them being pulled together by magnets.

Sit in a comfortable upright posture with arms and legs uncrossed.

Hold your hands out in front of you, elbows bent at approximately 90°, with your palms facing each other about 6 inches/15cm apart. Stare at the space in between your hands and as you do so pay attention to your breathing, without trying to change your breathing or stopping it from changing – just let yourself breathe easily and gently.

Become aware of the energy field in the space between and around your hands.

Notice what you can feel – perhaps a flowing sensation back and forth between your hands – a tingling, a warmth or coolness in the fingertips. Perhaps you notice a colour associated with this. Notice whatever you notice before moving on to the next step.

Now imagine there is a powerful magnet in the palm of each hand, which is pulling your hands together.

Continue to stare at the space between your hands and really imagine and feel this happening – your hands pulling together. You might notice your eyelids begin to blink more frequently and begin to feel heavier. Tell yourself and imagine that your hands are being drawn together by the power of this magnet; really engage with this idea – tell yourself that it is happening, until they actually move together and touch. If you need to use additional ideas or imagery to make this happen, that’s fine – use whatever works well for you; e.g. an additional force pushing your hands together. The main thing is to remain focused on the space between your hands; engage your imagination with the process, expect it to happen, believe it will happen; and tell yourself that when your hands touch, you’ll go into hypnosis.

The moment your hands touch, close your eyes and let your hands move down into your lap as you go into hypnosis.

Then deepen your experience.

When I use the term “deepen” I simply mean increasing the quality of your self-hypnosis experience. You can do this in a variety of ways – for example by counting down from 100 to 1, or from 10 – 1. In fact, you can simply imagine anything that involves going down; stairs, escalator, lift, diving. Or you can imagine a special, relaxing place – either somewhere you’ve been or somewhere created in your imagination. It’s important to choose somewhere that is safe, comfortable and relaxing for you to be. Or you can use progressive relaxation – focusing your attention on each part of your body in turn and relaxing each part as you move through the body. As you do this saying the words softening, loosening, relaxing, letting go, etc. as you do so. You can also incorporate colours or sounds spreading through your body as well if you wish; experiment and find what works best for you. Choose a deepener that appeals the most to you.

Whichever deepener you choose, continually say to yourself phrases such as ‘I’m relaxing more and more, I’m going deeper and deeper into hypnosis, I’m feeling more and more calm, I’m letting go of tension, I’m drifting deeper and deeper inside my mind.’

Imagine a special, relaxing place.

Either somewhere you’ve been or somewhere created in your imagination. It’s important to choose somewhere that is safe, comfortable and relaxing for you to be.

Focus your attention on each part of your body in turn and relax it saying the words softening, loosening, relaxing, letting go, etc. as you do so. You can also incorporate colours or sounds spreading through your body as well if you wish; experiment and find what works best for you.

And that’s your magnetic hands self hypnosis induction and deepener. You can then enjoy the rest of your hypnosis session.

Finally, exit your self hypnosis by counting up from 1 to 5, telling yourself that all sensations and sounds return to their normal sense of perspective, you bring your awareness back to the present, incorporating all the benefits of the hypnosis session into your life. Take a few deep breaths and open your eyes.
